Hey everyone, I'm Ashley Banfield, and this is Drop Dead serious.

There is a story out of Indiana that has been driving people nuts because nobody seems to be able to explain it, and I'm telling you, I certainly can't.

It's about a mom named Brittany Guard.

She vanished for eight days right after her house caught fire.

Her car was still in the driveway, her purse was still inside the house.

She had just told her 13-year-old daughter that she would see her at the school volleyball game.

But she was a no-show for the volleyball game, and she was a no-show for everything else for the next week.

Brittany was just gone.

If you ask her family, this was not like Brittany.

She never missed her daughter's games, and understandably they feared the worst that Brittany had been kidnapped or, God forbid, killed.

For about eight days, police treated this like it was an abduction, because what else could it be?

But the truth ended up being a lot more complex than that, And we're still not all the way there to the truth.

And everything that's been happening since is so strange.

Brittany was not in another state.

She wasn't trapped somewhere far away.

She was right there, hidden in a nature preserve,

two and a half miles from her home in Bainbridge,

Indiana, just west of Indianapolis. Now, to be fair, we don't know if she was there the whole

time, or if she just ended up there on day eight. But day eight is when the 911 call came

into the police

and it didn't take them but a minute

to figure out exactly where she was in those woods
