Well, good evening, everyone. I'm Laura Coates, and this is CNN Tonight, and can we just say,

0:14.3

what a day. It's been a day of chaos on Capitol Hill. I mean, they voted.

0:21.5

No persons have received a majority of the whole number of votes cast by surname. A speaker

0:28.8

has not been elected. Well, and they voted again. No person haven't received the majority

0:39.5

of the whole number of votes cast by surname. A speaker has not been elected. So they voted

0:48.4

again. No person haven't received the majority of the whole number of votes cast by surname.

0:56.5

A speaker has not been elected. So the third time was not the charm. And this lasted for almost

1:04.3

five hours, talking about three consecutive ballots, and they could not elect a speaker of the house.

1:10.9

1:42.8

there's still no speaker of the house, and they're going to do the whole thing over again tomorrow,

1:47.9

beginning at noon. So here's where it all stands tonight. Kevin McCarthy

1:53.0

does not, as we sit here today, have the votes. Does not have that magical number of 218, let alone

1:59.5

the majority of those who are voting in present. But then again, he's not alone, because neither does

2:05.2

anybody else. Now there's no doubt that the horse trading will be going on, frankly, all night long,

2:10.4

likely, as we are conversed with one another right now. But it's not at all clear what could actually

2:16.1

break the impasse. Jim Jordan, whose name was up there even getting votes, he says he doesn't want it.

2:26.0

But is there any chance that you may be speaker of the house? No, I beg clear, I want to

2:32.8

I want to chair judiciary committee. I mean, you guys now, I like, I like the ability to cross
