After three weeks of deadlock, the House has elected a new speaker. Louisiana representative

Mike Johnson. Johnson was the GOP's fourth nominee for the role. After the previous three failed

to gain enough support following lawmakers' ouster of former speaker Kevin McCarthy earlier this month.

Speaking after the vote, Johnson, who is a close ally of former President Donald Trump,

said, quote, the people's house is back in business.

The country demands strong leadership of this body. And we must not waver.

Our nation's greatest ally in the Middle East is under attack. The first bill that I'm going

to bring to this floor in just a little while will be in support of our dear friend Israel.

And we're overdue in getting that done.
