I get it confused at the big Derek Jeter golf event.

So I'm sure we'll get stories from Tiki when he returns tomorrow.

I have said this numerous times over my years as a sports fan.

And that is when you come close, like reasonably close to winning a championship,

even in a year that surprises you, even in a year that comes out of nowhere,

you really need to take advantage because there's no guarantee you're going to come back.

Even when you're feeling optimistic of, oh, don't worry, we will come back.

And there are three examples that I would like to give you right now where really in the last week and a half,

it has felt even more true that that point is so valid.

Okay.

Three different franchises in this town who came relatively close to winning something in the last half a decade, and right now it feels almost hopeless.

Okay.

I'll start with the least of the hopeless teams, but that being the Mets.

When they lost in the NLCS to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2024, I remember taking it hard.

And it annoyed me when Tommy or Tiki would say, but don't worry, we'll be back.

You got Steve Cohen. We'll be back. You got Steve Cohen.

We'll be back.

And we saw what happened in the following year.
