| 0:13.0 | We have Corey Grass, former FBI Special Agent, 20 years, in counterintelligence and counterterrorism. |
| 0:22.6 | And we've got some questions. I'm sure he has some thoughts. |
| 0:23.6 | But before we get to Corey, I want to play this one clip. |
| 0:26.6 | This is J.D. Vance's reaction to the White House correspondence dinner shooting. |
| 0:32.6 | And then I'd like to get your reaction to his reaction. |
| 0:36.6 | So here is the vice president. |
| 0:38.9 | Yeah, you know, I think, Will, honestly, it was tougher for my wife who was at home with the kids and started hearing things through, you know, text messages and social media than it was for me. |
| 0:48.6 | I really didn't know what was going on. Just to give you my perspective, I'm sitting up there on the days with some journalists |
| 0:55.8 | and obviously with the President of the United States a few seats to my right. And there's a lot of |
| 1:00.4 | commotion. You kind of hear some loud noises. I had no idea what it was. And before I had any idea |
| 1:06.3 | what was going on, I started seeing people sort of duck under their tables or respond to what |
| 1:10.6 | was going on far in the back of the ballroom. And then seeing people sort of duck under their tables or respond to what was going on |
| 1:11.5 | far in the back of the ballroom. And then an agent comes and whispers in my ear basically says, |
| 1:16.8 | sir, we have to leave. And you can kind of, you see the video will where the agent sort of lifts me |
| 1:22.6 | to my feet. And then I walk off stage and then go to my hold room and kind of wait and see what's going on. So, you know, the first thing that happened that actually freaked me out a little bit, Will, is that we heard that an agent had been shot. And in the fog of war, I thought, you know, oh my God, this guy's actually seriously injured or maybe worse. And then we found out later, of course, that he was uninjured or not seriously injured. |
| 1:44.8 | So as you learn this information, the thing that I really gained an appreciation for, Will, |
| 1:49.4 | is what an amazing job the agents of the Secret Service do. |
| 1:53.6 | You saw they went right to me. |
| 1:55.1 | They went right to the President of the United States. |
| 1:57.2 | They put their lives in harm's way. |
| 1:59.1 | And if I could just say, Will, you know, I've had a Secret Service detail for all of two years. I wouldn't say that I'm used to it. And there's an interesting way where you just kind of get used to it, right? They're the people who drive you to the White House or, you know, they're the people who hang out with your kids when your kids are run around outside. And they kind of fade into the background of your life a little bit. |
