why we'll get to davos uh and uh a lot more macy's announced they're laying off 2300 employees

closing five stores uh now whenever this happens with a big department store chain, they always do it right after the

holiday.

One of the reasons they wait to see how good or bad the holiday season is, and apparently

wasn't great.

So they're going to lay off 13% of its workforce.

Macy's closing five stores, laying off 2,300 people.

It's tough on the retail business.

And a lot of times they're in shopping malls, Macy's, or they're an anchor store in a mall.

And these malls are dying.

Now, the malls have to figure out how to save themselves.

One of the things going on now is supermarkets. You know, you got the mall with all the stores and then at each end

is two major, big, huge stores and Macy's, Bloomingdale's, all those that used to be the

anchor stores are leaving. A lot of malls now replacing that with supermarkets, which is a

pretty smart thing to do, because one thing

about a supermarket is people tend to go to the supermarket all the time, so it drives a lot

of mall traffic. Green Acres Mall, big new shop right is planned, those SunVet shops, that

mall, big Whole Foods market coming in.
