let's get to some football on this dad podcast this friday sam brownarno was a guest on Chris Long's Green Light podcast, and they're really getting into the mind of the quarterback. If you know Sam Darno, most of you do, he's had an up and down type of career. You're drafted high by the Jets. It doesn't work out there. You have a couple of stops. You go to what the Niners, the Panthers,

1:44.6

the Vikings, and now you find yourself with the Seattle Seahawks. In your first year, you go to the Promise Inn, Fulmin, you hoist the Ben Zimbardi Trophy and all is good, but there's been a journey to get there. And like most people, Sam Darnan had to learn to deal with failure. And now don't get me wrong, I feel like I was a little hard on myself when I was a young player. I felt like, you know, there were some bad plays that I would make and it would just kind of ruin me for like a series or two. You know, and that's something that I've definitely learned from and I've learned some like coping mechanisms to like kind of deal with like if something wrong goes on in a game how to kind of get back from that. But man, it's, yeah, I just, I learned a lot. And but again, I think just, just, you know, owning it, uh, being like, hey, I messed up. And, you know, I, I was wrong there. but I think also learning from it and being like, okay, I messed up, but I'm not going to continue to make the same mistakes twice. And that's huge. I mean, I think all athletes need to learn how to deal with their mistakes because the only time I've ever seen a perfect game is in baseball and when you're on the mound. Other than that, you're not going to have a perfect game. You are going to fail.

You're going to drop a pass. You're going to throw an interception. You're going to strike out. When I was little, my first year playing little league, I cried every time I struck out. Every time my mom was like, bro, you're one of those kids. You're going to strike out. So I was like, you're right. Who's the best player of your team? It was this guy, Brandon. this Brandon. So Brandon struck I like twice today.

2:02.8

Oh, you're right.

2:04.2

Brennan does strike out.

2:00.9

And that moment... And I was like, you're right. He goes, who's the best player of your team? It was this guy, Brandon. It was Brandon. So Brandon struck out like twice today.

2:02.3

I go, you're right.

2:03.3

It's true. I was not, I was kind of my own worst enemy in a way in my years in New York.

2:24.9

I remember watching the Seahawks Super Bowl championship video that got released a couple months ago.

2:33.0

And they showed clips of Sam in every stop that he had played in over the course of his career,

2:39.3

obviously starting with the Jets, and then the Panthers, the 49ers, the Vikings,

2:45.3

and then obviously in Seattle.

2:46.6

And you could see just in watching like the selected clips, the progression of Sam Darnold, like he looks like a totally different person from his time in New York to where he is now.

2:59.7

He had no confidence at all in New York.

3:03.0

And I think a lot of that had to do with, you know, maybe himself.

3:06.5

But it certainly had a lot to do with the organization around him and also the media in that market where they are out for blood at every point in, at every turn and every point. And I think that is a really hard landing spot for any rookie to be in is that New York pressure cooker environment, especially

3:25.2

with a poorly run organization like the Jets, he was set up for failure. And to be able to

3:30.4

kind of recognize, like, yeah, I was I was not in a good headspace. Like, I needed to get right

3:35.4

and ultimately found success and found peace in places that were not in New York.

3:42.5

And now look at him, you know, all these years later, he has completely rewritten the story of his career.
