Don't want to give short shrift to the Mets because very quietly, the Mets have played very good baseball and I never thought they would be able to.

They're seven and two in their last nine games and they've made themselves six and a half games back of the wall card.

Still very, very terrible odds to make the postseason, but isn't it amazing? A team that clearly gave up on the season is making more of a run of it than the Yankees?

Can you imagine?

No, and you know what else is happening with this? Met fans might not like this.

Buck Showalter is solidifying his position because this team could have easily rolled over and died and not played hard.

And you watch the Mets play and they play hard every single game and they don't have much pitching at all and their bullpen is kind of laughable.

And somehow this guy has gotten them to play really solid baseball and they're right there.

Now it does make you think, well, if they didn't give up, if they didn't trade Verlander that maybe they'd be closer than six and a half and they would be.

Would they've made it? Don't know because at the time that they traded those players they were had a 12.5% chance to make it and that wasn't enough for Steve Cohen.

But there they are on August 22nd and it does say something good about the people that they do have though.

That they're able in a situation like this to actually dig deep and do something as opposed to I'm sorry the Yankees team that was in a position to do something and did absolutely nothing.

So the Giants have the third wall card then the Diamondbacks, the Reds, the Marlins, the Padres and then the Mets.

Is it unrealistic? I guess it is.

But I think there are only one game behind the Padres and then there's five games behind the Marlins but they play the Marlins.

And they're five and a half games behind the Reds and they're six games behind the Diamondbacks and then the Giants have the third spot, six and a half back.

So and it's seven in the lost column. I don't think they're going to do it but the fact that they're giving Mets fans something to watch their team about and enjoy.

And it's not a terrible product. I thought it was going to be abysmal.

And after the Braves series right they play the Braves tonight and then Wednesday then Thursday and off day they come home three against the Angels.

And then a tough week three against Texas and three against Seattle.
