There was history on Long Island yesterday.

Alexander Ovetkin of the Capitol scored goal number 895 in his 1,487th game across 20 seasons

to break the previously thought of unbreakable mark of Wayne Gretzky.

Gretzky was there to congratulate him, and UBS Arena had a forever moment, which they handled

beautifully.

So it's so weird, though, because Gretzky had 894 goals in 1,487 games,

the exact same amount of games as Ovetkin.

A couple of years ago, like Ovetskin was done,

but he found the fountain of youth.

And not only is he broke the record this year,

but he's on a capital team,

that happens to be very, very good as well.
