So Michael King, the former Yankee, one of the players that went to San Diego in the deal for Juan Soto.

He had put up a big number for arbitration, and they did not settle.

They were going to take into arbitration, but he has now signed a two-year contract, one year with a mutual option, which obviously is a one-year contract.

So unless he gets hurt, he is going to opt out and go back and become a free agent.

But according to Mark Feinstein of MLB.com, King and the Padres settle to avoid the arbitration,

and King's going to be guaranteed $7.75 million, a $3 million signing bonus, $1 million

salary, $3.75 million buyout on a $15 million mutual option for 2026. The buyout can become

$4 million based on the number of games started. And it's an interesting construct. And Michael

will have to wait for the big money. He'll have to stay healthy. But he's a dynamic pitcher.

That was the one guy the Yankees really, really had a bite hard to make that trade,

but they wanted Soto so desperately.

And the Padreys said, there's no deal unless we get Michael King.
