Colby Newton and he's written a book about the SEC entitled SEC Football,

How a Regional League became a national obsession.

Hey, it's great to be on this show. I appreciate it. Well, a lot of guests who write books, I'll ask a very pedestrian question like you know where in the

world did you come up with this idea but I mean this one seems pretty

self-explanatory so take us through your process and how you went about this.

Yeah, I really started to think about why did the SEC become what it is today in the sense of,

you look at the national championships, the League won from the 1960s, early 60s to the 90s that doubled from the

1990s to present day and I thought is there a story there are there foundational

pieces that took place that brought the league to where it is now?

It's almost like a foregone conclusion that the SEC is going to, if not win, at least compete for the National

Championship, but it wasn't always that way.

So I went out looking for a book to read about it

and couldn't find one, so I figured why not write it?

Well, it's interesting because I mean, obviously,

there's a lot to unpack in terms of describing the SEC. How deep and far back do you go in trying to explain this league's history to present day?
