The Yankees didn't play, but the Mets did, and they lost a heartbreaker to the Philadelphia

Phillies won nothing very quickly.

Francisco Alvarez's at bat to end the game was possibly the worst at bat in the history of

baseball.

That's number one.

Number two, Carlos Mendoza done aft up, because A, there's no way you should be pinch hitting

for Brett Beatty with Starling Marte. And there's no way you should be pinch hitting Cedric Mullins for Luis San Helacuna. Right. And that's not a compliment to Cedric Mullins. Luis San Helacuna has had a handful of bat since being recalled. He's here for two reasons. His defense and his speed. And he popped it up. He should not be used as a bat. That is not his strength. He should be used as a pitch runner. Oh! And well, let's jump up an inning or two. When Mark Vientos rips that double, Ronnie Maricio was the one pinch running for Pete Alonzo. Spoiler alert. I expect those that don't watch a lot of the games to not understand this, but Carlos is there every day. He should know full well. Ronnie Maricio's not fast. On no planet, is he fast? So, A, him pinch running for Pete Alonzo gives you like this tiny, itsy-bitsy upgrade, if at all. And number two, that's where a coonia pinch runs. Right. So Carlos Mendoza had done aft up last night.

Alvarez had a terrible lap bat, and the Mets lost to the Phillies won nothing.

Right.

And it's okay if you do that in some series.

But in a game that essentially lost you access to the division.

I mean, access was shut out a couple of weeks ago, but okay.

In theory, it was still there.

Because if you, again, we had this conversation yesterday, Evan, if you sweep the Phillies,

then there's still a chance with 15 games ago.

Or this is four, right?

So whatever it is.

You would have had a chance.
