Looking back on the top stories of 2022, there were several all-consuming stories,

so it's difficult to pick a top story of the year.

But inflation was the story that affected everyone.

And President Biden blamed rising prices on the war in ukraine

since the start of the war in ukraine this year gas prices have risen by almost two dollars a gallon in the

united states and sometimes more around the world the supreme Supreme Court struck down Roe versus Wade,

and abortion became a midterm election issue,

and the results showed were a deeply divided country.

It isn't a wave, it isn't a tsunami,

it isn't a repudiation of Joe Biden.

What it is is kind of a mixed decision.

Donald Trump remained a big story throughout the year,

beginning with the hearings on the January 6th right at the Capitol. There's also ongoing investigations of his business, and just

last month, the announcement that he's running for president again. In order to make America

great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States.

For a lot of people, crime was the top issue. Crime up 40% in the city and concerned about

safety in the subway caused ridership to drive. We have an average of less than six crimes a

day on the subway system with 3.5 million riders. But if you write your story based on the narrative that you're

going to look at the worst of those six crimes and put it on the front pages of your paper every
