0:16.4	been in this studio this is the famous mark Mark Simone studio here at Radio 710

0:25.1	known Mark. Oh, let's see.
0:27.7	I've got to give you a little background here about my relationship
0:30.1	with Mark Simone. I first met
0:32.7	Mark in September of
0:34.5	1977. So in September, it will be
0:36.7	49 years since we first met.
0:40.1	When I met Mark, he was the nighttime DJ at what was then WPIXFM here in New York City.
0:47.6	And his audience predominantly consisted of teenagers at the time.
0:53.7	And I observed him at work.
0:57.6	He was incredibly funny, so creative on the air that, to be quite honest with you, I was kind of in awe
1:07.8	at how he could just put something together in about 30 seconds and create
1:12.6	hilarity on the air while at the same time keeping the hits coming. He was truly a great DJ.
1:19.9	He then later went on, of course, to a very successful career as a talk show host,
1:24.4	culminating in this top-rated show on Radio 710 WOR.
1:29.2	But besides the fact that he was really creative, there was something really unusual about him.
1:38.0	Now, you have to understand that in September of 1977, we were both very young guys. And we were working with a bunch of other
1:46.5	very young guys. And it was an era of T-shirts and blue jeans and sneakers. That's how
1:56.0	all of us dressed, except for Mark Simone.
