Hello everyone and welcome back to Scary Interesting.

In this video, we're going to go over two stories that took place in the mountains that demonstrate how crucial it can be to stay on the trail.

Unfortunately, for the people in these stories, they didn't and the results were horrifying.

As always, fewer discretion is advised. On April 8th, 2017, high above an area known as Lyons Bay in British Columbia, Canada,

0:33.6

a man named Eric took a seat. He was in the last stretch of a snowy climb up Mount Harvey with five other members of a weekend

0:40.7

hiking group and he needed a minute to catch his breath.

0:43.8

The last kilometer of the trek to Mount Harvey summit is notoriously difficult and is both steep

0:47.8

and above the tree line, leaving hikers exposed to the often tumultuous weather conditions

0:51.8

found at those elevations.

0:54.2

The actual summit itself sits at 5,420 feet or 1650 meters above sea level and offers

some of the best views of any of the mountains in the North Shore range.

1:03.5

It's also just shy of the tallest in the air, giving a full 360-degree view in every direction.

Up to the summit though is considered one of the most difficult day hikes in the range. There are several paths up and around the

1:13.9

mountain, but generally it's about eight miles or twelve and a half kilometers of

1:17.3

switchbacks and beside sheer drop-offs. That's also provided it's done in the

1:22.2

best weather from late May to the middle of October and while the group was

1:26.2

climbing in April which is technically spring, the mountain is high enough that it can look a lot more like the middle of

1:30.8

winter at the top. This can completely change the equipment you need and the dangers you

1:35.1

have to look out for. It also means that in bad weather, you could find yourself in snowstorm

1:39.6

whiteouts with zero visibility beside a thousand foot drops. Thankfully, these six hikers were a group

1:45.8

composed of two different hiking clubs and had been completing similar clums for much of their lives.

1:50.8

Almost every weekend, each person was on one trail or another in and around the Vancouver area.
