I think what we'll do is just to go through the panel to let them open their vocal cords

and just give them a couple of minutes each to offer some thoughts as to where we are

on the agenda of farming and climate change.

Farming, as you will know, has been remarkably resistant to all sorts of pleas over many, many years to cut emissions,

I think largely because farmers find it very difficult and a bit complicated and are resistant to change as we know.

So anyway, I'm going to give you the opportunity to kick off

and offer a couple of minutes' thoughts on where we are now.

Okay, I think first of all it's wrong to say that farmers are resistant to change.

Farmers will follow the signals that are given to them in the same way as pretty much any other sector will do.

For the last few years, we haven't had a government that's been particularly interested in dealing with the climate change consequences of farming.

So there hasn't been the pressure on farmers to do a huge amount about it.
