Summary

The great enemy of the human race is death. And we all have to face it. No matter how young you are, no matter how your life’s been going up to now, I can say, without fear of contradiction, that there is a lot of death in your future. And therefore, you severely need what this text talks about. It talks about hope in the face of death. Let’s ask the text three questions: 1) Why do we need hope in the face of death? 2) How can we get hope in the face of death? and 3) If we have it, how do we use it and increase it in our life? This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on February 14, 2016. Series: Bible: What We Are Receiving: The Gospel Goods. Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. Today's podcast is brought to you by Gospel in Life, the site for all sermons, books, study guides and resources from Timothy Keller and Redeemer Presbyterian Church. Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death

0:36.9

so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died,

0:43.6

Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who fall

0:50.4

in a sleep in Him. According to the Lord's Word, we tell you that we who are still alive,

0:57.3

who are left until the coming of the Lord will certainly not proceed those who fall in a sleep.

1:03.3

For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven with a loud command with the voice of the

1:09.1

archangel and with the trumpet call of God and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that,

1:17.2

we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet

1:23.0

the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore, encourage one another

1:33.9

with these words, the word of the Lord. So as B. Jan was saying over the next coming weeks,

1:44.4

the coming weeks we're going to be looking at our future. What we deem her hopes to accomplish

1:50.4

in the city over the next few years and the vision is very, very big and it's extraordinarily

1:56.3

exciting and we will be talking about that. But no church should ever talk about the future without

2:00.9

making sure that its feet are grounded right now in the biblical historic gospel that Jesus Christ

2:08.8

gave to his disciples and apostles and who then gave it to us. And what we've been doing for

2:15.3

a number of weeks now, we're almost done with this series, but not quite, is we're looking at what we're

2:19.7

calling the gospel goods, those unimaginable benefits that the gospel of Jesus Christ brings to us.
