On a beautiful September night in 2008, a young couple went out for dinner in downtown Calgary.

On their way home, the couple stopped at a park and sat down on a bench to soak in the warm, late summer air.

Around them, the trees were changing colors.

Never once did it cross their mind that it would be the last time, as a couple, they would see those vibrant fall colors again.

Last night, one of our worst fears as a police service came true, an innocent bystander would seriously injured his result of a shooting incident in our city.

Mr. Roller would pull the trigger and have no remorse and no concern about the individuals he was shooting.

And he was like, I don't care, I'll shoot the police too, if that's what it takes.

He cost to me because he was let go, right? And yeah, I don't wish this to anybody.

Jose Netto grew up in Brazil, in a very close-knit family with his parents and two brothers.

Jose, who prefers to be called Netto, has always loved being out in nature.

At 14, he learned to surf and the ocean became his second home.

After high school, Netto studied international business at university in Brazil, and English was a major part of that program.
