You've got your Bibles. Turn with me to Luke chapter number one.

I'm going to told the guys this morning I'm going to preach the worst Christmas message in history

because I don't really have a Christmas message.

I'm going to talk to you this morning about measuring time. I'm going to talk to you this morning about measuring time.

So go with me to Luke chapter one. I'm going to read the Christmas narrative, the gospel narrative,

the prophecy of the birth of Christ as it came to his mother Mary and then I'm going to jump

into what we do around here which is get on an obscure path that I believe is going to help us

honor Christmas effectively there were no ends in Bethlehem so it's a really poor

translation to say there was no room for him at the end.

There were no ends.

There were no ends in Bethlehem.

What would happen is during the census, people would host people in their homes.

And many scholars believe because of the scandalous rumors concerning the pregnancy of Mary,

they were not allowed to stay in people's homes.

And when they would knock on people's doors, they would say, there's no room for you in our home.

Because the gospel still at its core is primarily considered countercultural enough to be

classified as scandalous, many people are still failing to answer the door when the Bible

says concerning him, behold behold I stand at the door

and knock he stands at the door and knocks and many people reject the invitation for

Christ to come in the home because they know how radically him in the home would rearrange the way the home functions.

How many of you would dare to hear that this day?
