Summary

Welcome to HOOVERING, the podcast about eating. Host, Jessica Fostekew (Guilty Feminist, Motherland) has a frank conversation with an interesting person about gobbling; guzzling; nibbling; scoffing; devouring and wolfing all up… or if you will, hoovering.

This week I’m talking to the extraordinary Alexa Mason - opera singer, athlete, actor, vegan badass, heavy lifter, lupus and arthritis coper-wither and all round amazing creative, brilliant ultra-strong superhero.

Everything written below in CAPITALS is a link to the relevant webpage.

Tickets to see Hoovering LIVE in 2019

Hoovering is coming to MANCHESTER next on 13th October! COME COME COME. The guests are none other than Dave Comedy Best Show Award Nominee AMY GLEDHILL, poet JACKIE KAY and former Chumbawumba star and now amazing playwright ALICE NUTTER.

Some of the other autumn dates have had to come out because I’ve become swamped with other commitments but those proper touring efforts will be back in full force in the new year to coincide with my tour of my stand up show, Hench.

With that in mind - if you’re anywhere near Manchester - as this is the only live one I’m doing for a while - COME COME COME!

Honourable Mentions

You should be following ALEXA where she’s called VELOPERAPTOR and you should be able to find out about where she’s singing and everything else that she’s up to there. But you have to go and see her in the DEAR MARIE STOPES at 4pm on 21st September at Kings Place.

So I’m fresh back from a dream fringe with my stand up show HENCH, where is was all sold out including three big extra shows and it only got nominated for the fucking Edinburgh Award (Perrier for anyone outside of comedy). It’s going on tour from Feb but until then that’s announced, there are a bunch of dates at the SOHO THEATRE in London which I’d love to have you at. Click on anything in this paragraph in capitals for tickets.

Outside of that I’ll be doing new material gigs and I’m always sticking new dates on MY WEBSITE so have a check. The Hoovering Live dates go on there too.

I made us something I cook probably more often than anything else in the world ever - Nigel Slater’s CHICKPEAS IN SPICED TOMATO SAUCE

Alexa mentioned KEYTOSIS at one point which I still don’t really understand.

This is KINGS VEGGIE JERKIE, other brands we mentioned are NIBBLE

Welcome to Hoovering, the podcast about eating. I'm Jessica Bostigue. I love eating as much as anything

0:25.6

else in the world, but also it sometimes brings me conflict, shame and all sorts of other things that are rubbish.

0:33.5

It's complicated and I think fascinating. This is a conversation with an interesting soul, not just about food, but about gobbling it up, or if you will, hoovering.

Hey, Smashes, this is a belting episode with my friend Alexa Mason.

0:51.8

She's a master of all trades, including opera singer, acting,

0:56.0

area listing, as dangling off ropes. She's a coper with various massive ailments,

1:00.6

and she's a former dabbler in mixed martial arts. Of course she is. She's just an all-round

1:05.3

badass, and I can't wait for you to meet her. I don't know if you watch the proms and or saw

1:09.6

that gif that went viral of one of the opera

1:11.5

singers giving the camera an absolutely filthy little brilliant wink. That's Alexa, that is.

1:18.8

Anyway, here you are and thanks for being here. Thanks so much for listening. If you're enjoying

1:22.7

the podcast, tell other people about it. You have my huge gratitude if you're doing that. Rate

1:26.5

to review, subscribe, blah, blah, blah. I've got a bit of sad news, then a bit of great news about the

1:31.5

hoovering lives that were coming up in the autumn. So I've had to take some of these tour dates

1:36.3

out of the diary. Long story short, my schedule's gone absolutely off the chart since Edinburgh,

1:42.0

and it's everything I can do to keep the weekly podcast

1:44.7

going out to you at the moment and the live shows are a much bigger time and energy effort and also

1:51.4

other work has come up that's clashed with when some of them were going to be on but the good news is

1:55.6

there is still going to be one massive brilliant awesome lovely live show in Manchester on the 13th of

2:03.4

October at the Lowry, which is so cool. So if you're anywhere near there, please come. It's

2:08.8

2 to 4pm because I've booked the most brilliant, brilliant guests. I'm announcing them
