Summary

Welcome to HOOVERING, the podcast about eating. Host, Jessica Fostekew (Guilty Feminist, Motherland) has a frank conversation with an interesting person about gobbling; guzzling; nibbling; scoffing; devouring and wolfing all up… or if you will, hoovering.

In this episode I’m talking to charming lunatic, the superstar that is Gyles Brandreth. He was on Countdown ‘a long long long time ago’, the first EVER programme on C4. We met just before Covid when we recorded an episode of QI together and he was and is the loveliest and most fascinating soul. He agreed to hoover with me so I brought some cheese and apple round to his garden whilst his grandchildren had a swimming lesson in his pool. Naturally.

THIS SUNDAY 19th, 8pm (UK Time) IS THE HOOVERING LIVE - ‘VIRTUAL’ - Come!

Gyles read a poem a day ON HIS TWITTER in a snazzy jumper so I’d get all over that if I were you.

His podcast with the amazing Susie Dent is called SOMETHING RHYMES WITH PURPLE all about wonderful words.

And he’s written tens of books but this one of POEMS TO LEARN BY HEART is particularly lovely.

I’m on this great site called PATREON where I swap your money for ace podcast related stuff like totally exclusive content and guest recipes. It’ll help me keep the podcast not just alive, but also thriving. Thanks so so so much if you’ve become a patron recently and/ or stuck with me since the beginning of this.

Also - if you’d wanted to donate something as a one-off you can DO THAT HERE on the Acast Supporter page thing.

As ever, I toot wonky fruit and veg delivery heroes ODDBOX

The cheese I got us was from THE LARDER in Ladywell and it was a BERKSHIRE ROLLRIGHT and a Midlands Spenwood also known as a BERKSWELL

You don’t want to know what happened when I googled ‘Amigo Magazine for Foot Fetishists’

This was his dear departed friend SIMON CADELL

And lastly here’s a toot for the amazing REX CINEMA in Wareham, Dorset.
