China's repression of Hong Kong has led to an explosion of growth in Chinese churches in the UK.

One church in Manchester multiplied from less than 200 attendees to 1200,

due to the recent influx of immigrants from Hong Kong.

About one in four new arrivals from Hong Kong is a Christian.

Many others are open to faith.

This situation is both hopeful and challenging.

That's Alexander Chao, professor of theology at the University of Edinburgh observed,

while second generation Chinese immigrants tend to secularize,

migration stirs up questions of being disconnected and lost.

Christianity offers hope during that time.

Passing faith to children in the secularized west is always a serious challenge for immigrants who are Christian.

But, like early Christians in the Mediterranean,

or like the Irish missionaries that re-avangelize the post-Roman world,

Christian newcomers and a new land have an incredible potential for spiritual impact.

And this is always an opportunity for churches, often the first stop,

for those immigrating to a new land.
