Hello, if you have not done the Guardian cryptic crossword puzzle from Tuesday morning,

then here is a spoiler alert because I'm going to give you the answer to 16 down, which

was newscast, believe it or not, and we were alerted to this by a few people including

Sarah from Richmond and the clue was, as Sarah recounts it, players supporting game opponents

in media show.

I've got no idea how that gets you to newscast, but here is Sarah's working.

She says, in a cryptic clue, the answer is in the first or last part of the clue, and

I felt it was media show I might be looking for.

Players could be a side, a team, or the cast in a stage play.

Game could be in bridge, for example North South opposite East and West, which is a way

of categorising bridge players, which would give you the letters NWES, which could be

rearranged into news.

Oh, I see where this is going.

So the players or cast are supporting, which means following in cryptic crossword language,

the news.

And then Sarah says, finishing to my delight, it was newscast.

I can kind of get it now.
