Part 7. Tools of the Trade

William and Wilder bounced with excitement as they walked into the massive hardware store

with their mom and younger siblings.

The smell of freshly cut lumber and the sound of saws cutting wood filled the air.

The twins couldn't wait to explore every corner of the store.

Mom, can we go check out the tools section first? William asked, his eyes alight, pointing to a row of

shovels, rakes, and hose nearby. That's a great idea, boys, Mrs. Sterling replied with a smile.

Let's see what we can find for our homestead. Pushing a cart laden down with two

young children, one sleeping in his car seat and the other sitting contentedly, she led the way.

Come along, Penny, we don't want to lose you in here, she said, motioning for her daughter to walk

alongside the cart. As they made their way down the aisle, the twins picked up shovels and pretended to dig

holes in the ground. Wilder tried out a hoe and pretended to till the soil. William picked up a

wheelbarrow and pretended to transport hay. Be careful, boys, the tools don't belong to us,

their mother said, watching with amusement as they explored the tools. What do you think we could use these

for on our homestead? We could use the shovels to plant the garden, William said, an excited

expression on his face, and with the hose, we could keep the weeds out. And the wheelbarrow would

be perfect to transport dirt and mulch and stuff, Wilder added. As they continued down the aisle,

the boys looked at hammers and saws, imagining what they could build with them. William picked up a

chainsaw and pretended to cut down a tree. Wilder tried out a drill, imagining that he was building a doghouse.

Their mom smiled at their enthusiasm. Those tools could definitely
