From as far back as the old dark house in 1932, the horror genre has relished,

putting a bunch of strangers around a dinner table in an old, isolated house,

and let the awkward and often horrific interactions play out.

But no films have done this more powerfully in recent years than Karen Kasama's

The Invitations in 2015 and Christian Draftrops speak no evil in 2022.

Both films begin as low-key pot-boiler character dramas, and both end in some of the most gut-wrenching

and disturbing horror scenes of the 21st century.
