After the glut of grizzly home invasion movies through the 2000s, filmmakers in the 2010s

were able to have some fun with the format and give us interesting, innovative twists on the subgenre.

In 2014, New Zealand filmmaker Gerard Johnston made a horror comedy that blended the classic

haunted house genre with grizzly, gory home invasion.

There is a man living in the walls of my house and unless you do something he's going to kill my

mums, call my house please! In 2016, Chris Pekkova made a Christmas horror film that at first appeared

to be a fun festive slasher movie, only to become something much darker and more sinister.
