0:45.0 | Today, after more than a year of hard work, the Senate is making history. |
0:51.0 | That Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York speaking this past weekend |
0:57.0 | as the U.S. Senate prepared to vote on the most ambitious climate legislation in U.S. history. |
1:04.0 | This bill will kickstart the era of affordable clean energy in America. |
1:10.0 | It's a game changer. It's a turning point and it's been a long time incoming. |

1:18.0 | In fact, it's been more than 30 years since the U.S. Senate first heard that climate change was a problem. |
1:24.0 | And in the decade since the chamber has earned a reputation as basically the graveyard of major climate policy. |

1:34.0 | This weekend, Senators took up the Inflation Reduction Act, |
1:38.0 | which, despite its name, is in fact a massive investment in clean energy and other climate initiatives. |
1:45.0 | And so, after more than 30 years of stalling, just after 3PM on Sunday, Senators stepped forward to cast their votes. |
