Every year, a holiday lighting company in Illinois lights up houses in red, white, and blue

to honor families of fallen soldiers, veteran heroes, and

more for their decorated heroes program. Derek Claflin is an Air Force veteran himself,

and he wants to give back to families going through hard times over the holiday season.

Over the past three years, Derek has decorated the house of the Rogers family in Bloomington, Illinois.

Vonda and Kevin lost their son,

Sergeant Joshua Patrick Rogers, on April 27, 2017. Josh was just 22 years old. While serving

for the Army in Afghanistan, he was battling Islamic State loyalists, found himself caught in a friendly

fire situation.

The holidays aren't always easy for these families of fallen soldiers,

so during the season, Derek and the Rogers family come together

and use something as simple as Christmas lights to spread some holiday cheer and to honor Josh.

This is their untold story.
