Summary

How do you cultivate vulnerability while maintaining healthy boundaries with others? Striking this balance is especially complicated if we keep ourselves emotionally wide-open or utterly closed-off at all times, tendencies that many sensitive people favor. When we’ve been repeatedly hurt by people or systems, it can be hard to know who and how to trust. Martha offers tactics and resources for connecting with others and sharing ourselves in healthy, safe ways. (Originally aired: Feb. 7, 2021)

1:13.6

Okay, so I saw that and I thought a lot of people have asked me that kind of thing.

And I think I would like to do the whole gathering room on that.

1:22.6

So thank you very much, Sarah.

And I got to thinking about how complex this is in the face of social

1:32.2

media. Like we've all heard stories about people being bullied on social media, being slandered on

1:38.6

social media. We've heard about the teen suicide rate has skyrocketed and it seems to be connected with the social dynamics on social media

1:47.6

that teenagers have always been getting into. I mean, ever since Romeo and Juliet, they were

cursing each other and stabbing each other in the street and having sex and keeping it secret and all that.

1:58.7

But the internet has made that a whole different thing.

And kids are being, they're being overly exposed.

Their vulnerabilities are not being protected.

And therefore, they can get deeply wounded, sometimes lethally wounded,

just by information, just by people training information.
