We actually haven't mentioned, though, the other kind of specter in this film, and that

0:29.5

is of the kids TV host Jack the Jackass, also played by the same actor who plays Albie, Willow

0:35.5

O'Connell.

Yes.

Now, this is very much tying into the theme, right? Like, it's like, oh, this is what Ome was watching, this children's show with this bunny mascot when he killed his mother. And so this is like, this thing has taken on this horrifying visage in his mind. And that's what's tormenting him. And that's kind of all it is yeah and here's the thing it

makes for great publicity stills and footage that we can use in marketing like this is in

the trailer this is one of the stills that we released to promote the film I like it it's creepy

the makeup looks good this doesn't anything. This is just a manifestation of his guilt again. And I like it as a way to lead into the flashback so that we can confirm, yes, he accidentally shot his mom and that's what happened. But just, I don't know, you could lift this wholesale out of the film and it wouldn't change anything. Well, I's where, again, where I said earlier at the top of the episode, where I said, this is like a light character study, where if this was a heavier character study, this would have more of a place in the film for me. And I'm happy we don't belabor the point. You know, we don't have repeated flashes of this character coming out of the dark or dream sequences.

1:45.0

You know, it's not overused in the way that somebody else who's less confident about their filmmaking would.

1:51.0

But I also feel like this is here just to get a bit of a cheap scare in this moment.

1:57.0

And I think those moments of sustained tension that we just talked about, you know, with the witch and the dumb waiter and the pool and the poor poster bed, so much better.

2:05.5

It's just so much more representative of what McCarthy is capable of that this just feels a little bit cheap and schlocky to me.

2:12.4

The jump scare I kind of get, but I really do like the sequence where he's watching the rabbit talk to him on the television. Okay. It's fine. Like, can you lift it and it doesn't really make that much of a difference? Yeah. Yeah. That, that is true. But I think that's a problem. Like, it's here just to, just for the, oh, that's kind of weird. Oh, that's a bit scary. That's a bit unnerving.
