Elderly Henry Tibbs is a latter-day Munchausen who runs a service station in a small town

on Highway 66 and never has a chance to go anywhere, except in his fertile imagination.

But vicariously, Mr. Tibbs is Walter Mitty, Frank Buck, and Jules Vane,

who regales his customers with fabulous tales of his experiences, and they, and Mr. Tibbs, pretend to believe everything he tells

them. Unbeknownst to Mr. Tibbs, his conversations are picked up by Interplanetary Radio on Mars,

and are sponsored there by Happy Joe, a dealer in used canal barges. Happy Joe sends a Martian

emissary to visit Mr Tibbs, to take him to Mars to collect residuals on the radio broadcasts.

But Tibbs settles instead for a trip around the world in a flying saucer. On his return, he is

bursting to tell people about his fabulous, on fitness trip around the world. Then, to his dismay,

he learns that his name is on the front page of the local newspaper that day. Over the years, Mr. Tibbs has submitted material

that has won him numerous honourable mentions, but today, of all days, he learns that he has

With a wistful sigh, he says,
