just because she was so real to me and I wanted a real approach,

I was like, this is going to be a camera on her.

And I will try not to do a lot of like focus pulling or trying to focus on other stuff.

I just really want the audience to connect as human to human and stay with her.

In this episode, Director Blurto Pasholi discusses her new drama from Kosovo, Hive.

The film recounts the true story of a woman who pulls together the other widows in her patriarchal village to launch a business selling a local food product.

Their newfound independence draws the hostility of the

men in the village who condemn their efforts, sparking a feud that threatens their sovereignty

and the financial futures of their families. Hive was screened as part of the DGA's global

cinema series, which aims to spotlight landmark foreign films by presenting screenings of contemporary,

classic, and independent films, as well as conversations with their directors.

Hive is Ms. Vicholay's feature directorial debut, and earned her the directing award,

audience award, and the Grand Jury Prize in the World Cinema Dramatic category at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.

Following the Global Cinema series screening of the film at the DGA Theater in New York,

Ms. Bisholi spoke with director Nicole Kassel about filming Hive.
