And with me today, we have Prit Bhutar, who is the author of a book called Into the Reich.

And this episode is, I would say, educational.

The book is about the Red Army, which is the Soviet Army's offensive against Nazi Germany and all of it starting

with an attempt on Adolf Hitler's life. Longtime listeners know that I am descended from

Holocaust survivors and my grandmother whose voice I played on the show a long time ago,

Me-May was in a concentration camp for girls when she was around 14 years old.

We lost a lot of family members in the Holocaust and World War II has been a big, both looming taboo subject in my family and also something that, like, I don't go a day without thinking about, basically.

My grandmother had passed away and, yeah, it's just, she just would never want to talk about anything around it.

I had to really push to get some information out of her towards the end

of her life. But Preet's book actually follows her life through Poland and Paris pretty exactly

as the Soviet army closes in and pushes in from the east as the allies push in from the west.

Why do I want to talk about this on this podcast?

I was interested in the ways in which the playbook for Nazi Germany came from the United States and the ways in which the Native American population was genocided here.

Often we think of the U.S. copying Nazi Germany, but we are the blueprint for how we treated Native Americans.

And honestly, they looked at aspects of slavery as well.

As I suspected, a lot of this interview could literally just be about what's going on in the United States today.

The leadership in World War II was entirely focused on evading accountability and shifting blames onto others.
