What's up, everybody, and welcome to a throwback history episode of the Bronx Pinstripe

show. Over the past six months to a year, we've re-released a lot of these history episodes,

usually because they are relevant to something that's happening today. Like when we released

the one about the owners and the players dispute over the years,

we released that rate when the lockout started about a month ago.

Or the Lou Gehrig one, the list goes on.

Anyway, today's episode is the story of how George Steinbrenner bought the Yankees.

And the reason we're releasing this today is because yesterday,

January 3rd, was the anniversary of when he officially purchased the Yankees. Unfortunately,

we missed the actual anniversary. So we're doing the next best thing and releasing it the next day.

It's a really interesting story. And it's actually, you'll hear me talk about it in the first

couple minutes of the

throwback is that this was the, this was the second history episode I did. This was recorded

late March, early April of 2020. So right when the pandemic started, we were all kind of just

confused. When would the league start up again? We all thought it was going to be a two or three week shutdown and ended up being multiple months. You know what happened.

But this episode is interesting because it kind of set the tone for what the rest of them would

become, which was more of like a story that I was telling versus what the first one was, which was I read a

couple, you know, a bunch of information about MLB short seasons and I kind of just talked about

what I read about, whereas what they became and they started with this Steinbrenner episode
