Hey everyone, welcome to our series on the most important battles in the Civil War,

the 10 Most Important Battles specifically.

We're on number nine.

Last episode we began, and we were looking at Atlanta and the March to the Sea, Sherman's

March to the Sea.

It's all grouped together, so we thought we would make a two-parter out of this.

In the last episode, we ended with the fall of Atlanta, the resounding Union victory,

not so much resounding in numbers, although they definitely bested the Confederates, but

in terms of morale, it was critical for the Union.

This has direct impact on Northern morale.

More importantly, this has direct impact on the election of 1864, which for years, both

sides were looking to, as a bellweather of whether or not Union victory would be possible,

because the morale might be sapped so much.

So let's start there, and then after we look at the election of 1864, we'll look at

our friend General Hood and his march into Tennessee after he is forced to leave Atlanta.

He's derided as one of the most ruthlessly and recklessly aggressive generals in the Confederacy

in the Civil War.

We'll see how he fares.
