1:06.8	Because it began as a continuation of the Roman Empire in the East after the Western Roman Empire had collapsed.
1:17.4	But apart from keeping alive the Roman and Greek legacy, it developed a story of its own for centuries.

1:36.8	To the Europeans, the Arabs, the Turks, the Persians, Byzantium was a model for centuries until its final decline during the Middle Ages.
1:49.9	It was at the center of religious conflicts too, that led to the separation of the Roman, Catholic,
1:57.8	and Eastern Orthodox churches.
2:04.3	It left extraordinary architecture.
2:11.7	It directly influenced many countries, such as the Ottoman Empire and Russia.
