Summary

Joseph Smith had a swirl of questions in his mind and heart as he headed into the woods in 1820. When he came out of those woods he declared convincedly, "I have learned for myself." What happened between those questions and that answer is one of the most amazing and instructive stories ever recorded in religious history. Just a few days into a brand new year we find ourselves, much like Joseph, asking serious questions and looking to heaven for serious answers. This week we look at Joseph's experience and ask ourselves, "What will I do to learn God's truth for myself?"   Show Notes: Doctrine & Covenants study resources Visit our website scripturestudyproject.com or connect to us on Instagram or Facebook Music: “Do Not Go Gentle” by Josh Woodward

Joseph Smith story, at least the way that it's told here in the Pearl of Great Price,

Joseph Smith History section. And we're excited because this is a pretty natural follow-up to what

0:48.8

we were studying last week. So if you listen to our last episode or studied Doctrine Covenant

0:53.9

section one, we focused on the

0:57.7

commandment from the Lord for us to hear him.

And we talked a lot about the calamities that were going on in the 1830s that are similar to

1:06.8

the calamities that are going on in the 2020s and how throughout all of that God speaks,

1:14.1

knowing what those calamities are, he speaks to us, gives us light and truth and answer and

1:19.3

commandment. But the question for us is, what do I want to hear from God as I studied the Doctrine Covenants?

1:27.9

What am I trying to learn from him?

1:30.7

And what's cool is this week's study as we study Joseph Smith and how he came to have a lot of questions himself,

1:38.5

we get kind of the perfect part to last week's study.

1:51.0

That's a great example of someone with a question facing calamities or I think he calls them confusions, but similar words, strifes and tumult of opinions, right?

1:55.0

Someone that's facing all of that that has a question, a couple of questions, and wants an answer. So to start this study, I always
