This is the Jim Rome show.

I was going to start with the NFL, but I ultimately decided to start with some college hoops.

And the reason for that is it was only 24 hours ago when Jamal Mashburn appeared on this very program.

Showed up great. Showed very program. Showed up great.

Showed up great and said, among other things,

that his former head coach, Rick Petino,

was doing one of the best coaching jobs of his illustrious career.

What he actually said was this was the best job that Petino has done since Iona and the Greek national team.

I see Coach Petitio has done a great job with his mystique and also who he is.

But at the end of the day, what the core of Rick Petino is, is he's a teacher of the game.

And I think on the sideline, you really start to see that come through

as they've grown as a team throughout the season.

So the take made a ton of sense.

I mean, the Johnny's did just run off 13 in a row.

The Johnny's, he had been slicing through the Big East schedule. They

climbed all the way up to number 15

in the national rankings.

So as of 24 hours ago,

that really was one of Rick Petino's

best coaching jobs ever.
