Blenglo State Forest in New South Wales, Australia is a 3,800 hectare, 9,400-acre forest between

Sydney and Canberra that's open to the public.

It's a popular place for people to bring their dirt bikes and ride around the network of

fire trails throughout the forest.

That was the case on August 29, 2010, when about 10 riders met up at a campground inside the forest

and took off to explore the area.

They rode up the Red Arm Creek Fire Trail and took a left when it teed off at the Rockley

Fire Trail.

Not far up that trail was a clearing and something caught one of the rider's eyes.

He hopped off his bike and picked up what looked to be a femur.

Then another rider looked around and found what he thought was a pelvic bone.

As the group continued focusing on some other small bones scattered around the area,

one of the riders suggested they were from a kangaroo.

The rest of the group shrugged it off and got back on their bikes to continue their ride, but the discovery continued to

bother a couple of the riders, so they returned and continued searching the area. Eventually, they found

a skull, and it was undeniable that it was human. When one of the group called the Boweral Police Station, the officer asked him to send a picture of the bones they had found.

People often mistake animal bones for human bones and the authorities try to make sure they don't send someone out to the middle of the forest if it was obviously not human remains.

In this case, when the officer saw the human skull, it was clear he needed to send someone

out.

About ten minutes later, the writers met officers near the camping area and led them back

to where they had found the remains.

A search revealed more human bones, so the area was sealed off and a detective
