The one thing that is certain about the Appalachian Mountain communities is that they have

powers and hours of legends of the area to tell anyone willing to listen.

Many of these legends can't necessarily be verified, but they are ingrained in the fabric

of the towns in which they originate from.

As you would imagine, many of these stories are along the lines of the paranormal or the

unexplained.

These stories are rarely passed down from generation to generation.

One of these communities is mountain town, at the foot of Mount Zion in Georgia.

Today you will learn a few stories that many outside the area would consider to be tall

tails or just legends, but to the locals they consider them to be fact.

Here is a go, it was common for people to take strangers into their home for the

night who were passing through town.

One time there was a young man who was passing through the area as night time fell.

He stopped at the first house he came to, it was the home of Gomer Parker.

Gomer lived there with his three children, his wife and mother of his children had recently

passed away.

The young man asked if he could spend the night.

Gomer told him that he could, he said that he could sleep in the front room, but not to

sleep near the doorway.

When the young man asked why, Gomer said, you will see.

As it started to get late, Gomer gave the man several quilts and some pillows, and he

and the children went off to the two bedrooms to go to sleep.
