However, I did always know, even from the time I was a little kid, that I would be an entrepreneur,

that I would work for myself, that I would build something.

And when it finally made sense was when I had hairdressers,

friends of mine who said, you know, you should open up a salon. And so I did open up 40 years ago,

a tiny three-chair salon. It was in the basement of an office building in downtown Provo, Utah,

of all places. So that was my humble beginnings, but it quickly

expanded into a second salon and then a third salon and a fourth salon. And having multiple

salons, I realized that I needed to train them because the people that were graduating from

cosmetology schools back then, I felt, and my team felt

they weren't at all ready to compete and work in the beauty industry. And so we thought

the best way to train them was train them ourselves. And so, you know, sometimes being naive

is your best asset because I didn't know what those red flags were. I'm sure I just drove

right past all of those red flags realizing that, or not realizing that, gosh, maybe I should have paid more attention to that. But what I did have back then was that feeling of wanting to hustle. And I love that word hustles. A lot of people think that there's some bad connotations to that word. I mean, to this day, I still hustle. But back then, my gosh, you know, I didn't know what I didn't know. And so I was just hustling and moving forward. And I made some really good decisions back then that served me well back then and still served me today.
