Hello, hello, and happy Labor Day. A day when we think about work, about the value of work, and in the U.S., of course, the money that you do or don't get for doing that work.

And so today we wanted to dig into an issue that often seems so wonky, but can profoundly affect your life.

Taxes, more specifically property taxes. Yeah, hold on, I could feel

your eyes glazing over there. Just stick with me for a second. So many of us don't actually

pay property taxes directly. If you rent, you're probably not worried about them. Even if you own a

home, you might not spend a ton of time thinking about them. But these taxes get baked into our rent prices. For those who pay mortgages, they're a significant expense.

And for retirees who have paid off their homes, they're a main expense. They can keep spiraling

upwards regardless of your income. And in many cases, that home is the single most valuable

thing someone owns.

It's their one piece of generational wealth.

But if you don't pay your property taxes, it can all go away.
