We almost got to the end of the year without Piers Morgan becoming the story.

Almost.

I've never hacked a phone or told anybody else to hack a phone.

And nobody has produced any actual evidence to prove that I did.

That was the man himself giving a statement outside his own front door, forced to address allegations of phone hacking during his editorship of the Daily Mirror some two decades ago.

That's because, and this will perhaps sting Morgan most, Prince Harry

has won. He's won in his court battle against the owners of the Daily Mirror in a judgment

which will ricochet through the British press. The judge has ruled that there was extensive

phone hacking by Mirror Group newspapers from 2006 to 2011. He said that two of the most senior

directors of the company knew about it, and that there can be, quote, no doubt that the former

editor, Piers Morgan and other senior editors and lawyers at the newspaper group knew about

phone hacking and other illegal information gathering, something they've always denied.
