| 1:36.0 | So there's Melder Johnson and I visited Rye Beach, New York on July 4th, 1938. |
| 1:44.0 | An excellent swimmer. Melder decided to swim out to the breakwater amount distant. |
| 1:50.0 | Although only a mediocre swimmer I bravely followed. |
| 1:54.0 | Since the breakwater, a natural rock formation was connected to the other end of the curved beach, I knew we would have to swim back. |
| 2:02.0 | Fortunately I was able to rest twice during the long swim once on a float and again at the anchor of a motor yacht. |
| 2:10.0 | While I was resting the second time, Melder had already had reached the breakwater and was sunny in herself. |
| 2:18.0 | This breather I continued to my swim but halfway to the breakwater I suffered a cramp and went under gulping water. |
| 2:26.0 | Terrified I gulped more water and went under at a second time. |
| 2:30.0 | I surfaced, I prayed, oh God don't let me die. |
| 2:34.0 | A second later I heard the voice of a fair-haired blue-eyed young man. |
