live from London I'm James Menendez and coming up a little later on the

program will be in Marseille in the south of France where

worries over immigration seems to be fueling support for the far right ahead of

Sunday's second round of voting in the election in France. We'll also be hearing in

this half hour about how IVF can help white rhinos avoid extinction. But we are

going to begin today in the Middle East where

there's been some movement on efforts to broker a deal to end the fighting and

secure the release of the remaining Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.

However, across Israel's northern border with Lebanon,

there's been a significant exchange of fire today.

The Lebanese Armed Group Hezbollah, an ally of Hamas,

says it launched more than 200 rockets and attack drones

towards Israel in response to the killing of one of its senior commanders.

Gilad Yehoudi and his family live on Kibbutz Shamir just outside the official evacuation zone

and that stretches five kilometers into Israel from the border.

There is a real war, missiles, drones, fires, alarms all the times, a lot of noises also

from the Israeli side, airplanes in the sky all the time and it can change from three alarms a day to three days

without any alarm. Basically we know that Hezbollah have the ability to hurt us, to injure us in any given moment.

Let's talk to the BBC's Middle East correspondent Yoland Nell who joins us from Jerusalem and

Yoland this moment across that northern border how serious is it?

I mean this is just the latest surge in violence in what is really over the past few weeks

...
