The name of the wood is called "Purpleheart" and it is a South American hardwood that is super dense. The wood will turn brown over time after it is milled, so the use of sealants is a must to keep that intensely beautiful purple shade from fading. Also, its density makes it notoriously hard to deal with, as the sap will gum up your table saw blade very quickly, resulting in a lot of burn marks from the blade onto the wood. But no worries, for purpleheart sands down incredibly well.
