Today I am handing over the podcast to FOAMcast by Drs. Lauren Westafer and Jeremy Faust. A little more than a month ago, Dr. Nick Genes challenged twitter to create core content FOAM for hepatic emergencies. Lauren and Jeremy did an excellent episode on this topic on FOAMcast so here it is- re-broadcasted on EM Basic. They'll review common hepatic emergencies and their managementi in the ED and point you in the right direction to learn even more on this topic. I haven't edited their episode at all- it's all Lauren and Jeremy's episode. If you like what you hear, go to foamcast.org or look for FOAMcast on iTunes.

0:00.0 | Hi, everyone. This is Steve Carroll, and you're listening to the In Basic Podcast. Today we're going to be doing something a little different. Today I'm going to completely turn over the reins to another podcast, foam cast by Dr. Lauren Westifer and Jeremy Faust. About a month ago, they were challenged by Dr. Nick Jeans over Twitter to create core content for the very unsexy topic of hepatic emergencies. |
0:23.8 | This topic is so unexciting that it hadn't yet made it on to EM Basic, and phonecast even called me out on it. |
0:29.8 | To be honest, I had no plans on making an episode on this anytime soon, so I figured if you can't beat him, join them. |
0:36.2 | In all seriousness, Lauren and Jeremy |
0:37.8 | did an excellent episode on Epatic Emergencies, reviewing the basics and common clinical |
0:42.4 | scenarios. It's so good that I'm rebroadcasting it on EM Basic with their permission. |
0:47.7 | So have a listen, and if you like what you hear, head over to foamcast.org or find it on |
0:52.6 | iTunes for some solid EM core content topics based on |
0:56.5 | current foam blogs and podcasts. This episode is totally Lauren and Jeremy's work. I haven't edited |
1:02.8 | it at all, and so it's exactly the same as what was published on their website. If you've already |
1:07.6 | heard it, I encourage you to take another listen. It's that good. |
1:14.1 | All right, that's enough for me except to say that this podcast is represented through you as a pending summer defense, the US Army, or the Shawshack EM Residency program. |
1:18.6 | Now presenting Hepatic emergencies from FOMcast. |
1:21.9 | Hey, y'all, and welcome to FOMCAST. I'm Lauren Westifer. |
1:25.4 | Jeremy, we have a mission today. |
1:27.3 | I accept. And you don't even know what the mission is. |
1:30.9 | That's okay. You've earned my trust by now. So ill-advised, Jeremy. Here we go. Eam blog and tech rock star Dr. Nick Jeans posted a tweet last week that we simply must respond to. |
1:41.4 | In general, I think the FOMC cast mission is to respond to every single tweet ever |
1:45.0 | posted. So let's start with this one. What did he say? Well, he's calling out the foam world on the lack |
1:50.3 | of coverage of bread and butter content. He's got a point there. If he didn't, we would be out of a podcast. |
1:55.5 | And that would be bad news. But let me just read what he said. Quote, really with all the foam-ed goodness out there in EM, no love for the liver? |
2:03.3 | I suppose it's not as sexy as other topics. |
