0:49.7	with Professor Henry Lewis Gates Jr. to friends known as Skip, and he was just a font of
0:55.6	extraordinary information. And so we were able to continue that conversation at length. So today is
1:01.4	part two of that terrific discussion. And we're thrilled you're here to join us. So we hope you
1:06.3	enjoy it as much as we did. I was thinking about the question that Skip really opens us to think about,
1:16.2	which is, you know, when Africans come to the new world and replicate institutions from which they
1:23.9	were excluded, you know, how do we understand that replication? Because it sounds like
1:28.6	on the one hand, it was mirroring, but on the other hand, it was dramatically revising those very
1:34.6	institutions. Absolutely. And so it's figuring out how to not, not overemphasize the total creation
1:42.4	of brand new, unrecognizable institutions.
1:45.7	But on the other hand, not saying this is just placating white supremacist organizations and
1:50.8	reproducing them, but in fact, transforming them in the ways that were absolutely essential.
