| 0:46.0 | And I'm Nate Reisman and this this is you can see me in the dark. Over the years, we've received stories from the most interesting people in the most interesting of ways. Often a storyteller will remember a friend's amazing ghost story, and before they know it, they are on the podcast. Sometimes it worked, a client will learn that Nate and I host a ghost podcast, and they end up on the podcast. But then recently, I found out my parents were taking a trip to Kalamazoo, Michigan, and they would be staying at one of the most haunted spots in the state, a place called Henderson Castle. My mom sent photos of a stunningly beautiful Victorian home, sprinkled with snow, and decorated for the holidays. She also announced they were staying in the most haunted room in the castle. Spoiler alert, they did not see any spirits. But I am taking this moment to thank them both for next level dedication to finding us a story. My mom and dad are not coming on the podcast, but I got the next best thing. My mom introduced me to Francois Moyet, the owner of Henderson Castle. He is a proud French chef who, after owning restaurants in Paris, came to America with a belief that food is medicine. He didn't plan on buying what had been nicknamed Henderson Castle, named for Frank Henderson, a textile manufacturer who made a fortune selling uniforms to the US Army. But as Francois tells it, a Frenchman knows what to do with a castle. After speaking with former owners, guests, and some FBI agents that are also mediums, maybe it's less clear on what to do with all of the spirits that came with it. |
| 2:46.4 | You can see me in the dark presence. |
| 2:48.8 | Francois. It's not coincidence, everything's up and for a reason. Everybody always asked me, how do you find the castle? I said, you not find the castle, the castle find me. And the castle have no intention to let me go. So I'm stuck there for a minute. When 15 years now, and I love it, it seems to have, like yesterday, and sometimes it seems to have been a thousand years. My name is Stasvoire Mollet. I'm a French citizen. I moved to this area 32 years ago in Teleme 30 ans, en Télémez-Zou, par exemple paris de Paris restaurant downtown Telemezzo in O'Echt. |
| 4:05.4 | I sold everything before the crisis. It took three years to break. I have a master degree in Cuneriat because I was very concerned about the food industry in the United States and the junk food. as I was completing my study and I was working for a friend of mine at the time in South Bend. I went into the castle. The castle was in trouble, but I know the owner, so I offered to help at the time. So that's where I stepped in because of the French citizen and we let him out to do with the castle the castle in France We have a 10,000 castle so I think a castle better than breakfast restaurant spa winery nothing new there's thousand of them here It's very cool. It's very unusual I didn't make the name at the name Ken with the building Anderson Castle and there is a lot of great history. The Queen and Victorian home, actually this year at the 135 years old anniversary. And it's my 15 years anniversary at the one of the castle. I always been a believer, I'm a Freemason, I'm a Christian, I a French, I'm a lover, and I've always been intrigued by that for sure. But I was also very suspicious because I'm like, okay, that's Michigan's second most haunted place and that United States, ten second most haunted place, I'm like sure, whatever. And actually what in the last 15 years, you will need certainly a 30 hour show for me to tell you everything happened. And I always told my children, my friend, my family, my brother, my sister, you better be good because they are watching us. And yes, there is something after life. There is no question about it. So Mary is Frank's son, the owner of the castle would build a castle in 1895 and she was the wife still is Frank passed in 1899 for years after he build a castle in Mary 1907 so they don't they don't stick around very long. As a spirit, they bend |
| 6:27.0 | here all along and they have no intention to go anywhere. |
| 6:31.6 | The castle is built across the street from the cemetery, the oldest cemetery of |
| 6:36.4 | Kalamazoo. So we got about 30,500 neighbors across the street who are very quiet. |
| 6:41.6 | But they heard the food was good and they like to check in for nutcaps. So Frank is here and he keeps everybody in order and if he don't like them, he kicks them out. Simple as that. For example, we built a pool and we dig a lot of dirt which we gestimated could have been |
| 7:08.4 | for more Indian symmetry or anything like that and for immunity was a lot of trouble. Do the haunted investigation at the castle and you say, well, you know, you may have one of them and so we did some sense asking them to leave and we think it back in order and then like this week we've been having many little issues so last night I went into the castle with a burning some sage and I don't know if it's a, but usually Frank find out what it is and get rid of the bad models. So we have a 14 bedroom, 12 in the castle, two outside in the guest house. So in the last 15 years when a takeover was only six rooms, now we are 14 rooms. Mary, Mary's bedroom, was a walking closet where the cabinet was opening constantly back and forth and back and forth. When we started construction in the room, we take down the cabinet, lower part to make space for the jacuzzi, we were putting in the room. And then as we opened the floor for the plumbing, I discovered these box. It was actually box with oyster shell kind of pearl naked, it was a very interesting box. And so I'm like wow, what is that? And in the box it was a bunch of pearl, silver, jewelers, nothing very expensive, that definitely belonged to Mary and that's what she was looking for. So, I recovered the pressure of the castle and put it away safely and since it's the very day, the duo of the cabinet of this, the walking closet does not open and close the name. Because she knew I find it and she... she satisfied. |
| 9:24.0 | Christian was the daughter of a free Mason and and back in 1895 no preschools of the Kippunei and the kids. The Queen was playing downstairs in the dining room and she kept climbing on the scaffold door trying to write a name and she takes some stand and she writes a name, you know, she don't know how to write at the time so she pretend to know how to do it. And then Frank keeps telling her and she's getting at her do not play on the worksite. So almost 20 years ago, a medium ABI agent spent the night here before my time. Kati were in keep at the time and she told me the story. So she met the ABI agent and the ABI agent and said, I'm a medium, I'm here in Keremazoo to walk on this cold case. And she said, do you want me to do a reading of the castle? And Kati is like, sure, why not? And so she told the story I'm bringing you now then she saw Frank coming running down the stair yelling at little Christian and say get up the scaffolder I don't want to see you here and whatnot and so the little girl suddenly was very scared because she Frank and and she tipped over full of all the floor from the eight foot tall scar folder, broken it, die instantly. The writing is on the bean downstairs. I saw it and I'm like, damn. very kind of a sea, kind of an air, kind of an edge, a tea, I mean you can barely... But you can see it's an writing. So I call Fradoire, my friend won the castle, sorry the other girl, and Fradoire did not believe in ghosts. And I told him, say, are you aware of this writing? And he said, he said, dude, that's going to be crazy. I take it down, sweat down. We send it back to the wood, we send it hoping that we'll disappear. And he always come back. So sometime you know, on the slow night, like tonight, we have only like four or five bedroom tonight. People in the morning, they come to see me and they're like, wow, did you get a party last night in the ballroom? I'm like, no, are you sure because this was people dancing at 2 a.m. and moving chair and jumping and laughing. I'm like, no sir, it was just you and I, it was last night and he was nobody in the third floor. |
| 12:25.0 | Like what? It's a Christine who, in a good time, she liked to dance, she liked to play marble on the floor with her little friend. So he was 2012, first modern mystery dinner at the castle. and I'm cooking in the kitchen and Suddenly in the Danny woman here The modern mystery people was using a gun with a fake bullet you know to kill the victim Oh my god, I can feel the energy in the house. Frank is best. |
| 13:12.5 | He's like, Frank do not like weapon. Frank was the owner of the Anderson Infactory, which make a fortune selling military uniform to the United States Army. |
| 13:18.0 | And he was doing the regalia for the free Mason. |
| 13:21.5 | And there was his company downtown Kalamazoo. |
| 13:24.5 | He would be the largest employer back then in the day. I can see Frank is not happy. And so I run upstairs. I can feel the wind, do a slamming. I'm like, what the heck? So I go upstairs and I run into this two woman in the early 50s and one of them have a big you know cannon can watch oh my god look look look I got a picture of Frank in the window say hi and they say oh are you Francois and they're like oh my god we love what you've been doing here it's great and and Frank and Mary love what you do I'm like yeah. And also, you can't even smoke in today or what. And so I'm looking to them like that. And they're like, oh, yeah, Frank and Mary, oh gosh, they love you. They absolutely love you. I'm like, okay, good. They're like you, God and angel. I'm like, all right. Let's go. I gotta go back to cook. So, any seniors said, yes, yeah, no, we were medium. So, that's what we do. And he said, I used to play with Christine when I was a little girl. I used to come to the house in the ballroom. That was my secret friend. I'm like, what? But the time I'm thinking, she's playing a job on me. And I'm like, who are you? And she's like, no, no, I'm serious and I'm like, okay, show whatever. And she's like, but she's looking behind me like that and I'm talking to her. And she's like, there is another ghost here. It's the whole lady, but we cannot understand because she's big friends. I'm like, what? It's a grandma. So I don't know what I'm like, grandma. She was very confused. I'm like, what the? And she's like, she's not a grandma. She, but gosh, she loves you. She adore you. And she's like, we don't understand what she's saying, but what we feel, she's so grateful for what you did for. You save her body and exhume her body and we barrier what she wanted to be, barrier with a love of our life. I'm like, I'm she wanted to be very with a love of her life. |
| 15:45.0 | I'm like, |
| 15:46.0 | I'm shaking. I'm like, what? I say, nobody, nobody's story. And I told the lady, I'm like, who the fuck are you? I was mad. She's like, what I told you, we are medium. At this point, I'm shaking. I'm like, nobody knows the story about that's my personal life. |
| 16:06.0 | Yes, I did that and this woman was my landlord when I was a young chef, a apprentice and in my associate degree in France and The thinner is cool did not have room for me at the dormitory. So I spent three years with her in our home I was renting a room on them was cross- name was Constanzino and she was my head of the grandma, she wanted to know. And every night we were sitting and talking and she was three million stories, she was born in 1895 and so it was a very interesting moment of my life where she gave me a lot of wisdom and I was there to help for her in case she was diabetic and she didn't shut or whatever. And so for three years I was there with her and I graduated from school and I took a job as a sous chef in a Royal City and two weeks later I came to see her and she was dead. And they bury her because she had no family like a dog in the commune cemetery. But I know what she wanted, she told me, she wanted to be buried in the Pyreneen mountain on the top of the mountain, chasing the ocean. And so I talked to my best friend, was my roommate at the time, and I said, guys, we need to do something. We cannot just let that happen. You know, I get the information, I know what to do. And so I went to the French army later and said, well, went from money, and he took, I have no money at the time. And then after army we make it happen we pay for a very expensive exhumator body by a new coffin hire a horse driver all the way to the pre-enemountain we bury her with a proper honor next to the love of a life facing facing the ocean on the top of the mountain. And that never been explored on that and nobody was destroyed, but they still didn't know about it. And that's where I realized, these days, I become very, very strong believer. So do you have people that seek out the castle because it's haunted? Oh yeah, but the meaning of it was like, don't say nothing. And then about ten years ago I'm like, no, it's a good public. You know, there's nothing to be afraid of. It's a lovable. |
