slash parenting podcast. You know I see a lot of dads struggling with how to interact with their daughters, especially when those girls hit the teen years.

It can be awkward and it can just be really hard.

I'm John Fuller along with the head of our parenting

department here at Focus on the family, Danny Huerta and Danny you're a

family counselor. I mean why is it? I'm sure you see this lots. Why is it the girls just become harder once they get into

their teens?

Part of its developmental and part of its personality as well. Some personalities don't have that

shift as much. The more compliant peacemaker types,

but the driven ones definitely feel that their dads just don't understand.

That's what they'll say.

My dad just doesn't get me, doesn't understand me.

And a good phrase for dads is just help me understand. I'd love to understand stepping in with that

curiosity, being interested, paying attention, being consistent, being persistent.

Over time, a daughter will know, my dad is still going to be there, he's not going to go away, and it may may feel I think the key word here is

there's a feeling there that maybe they're acting like they don't want their

dad's input girls still do deep down yeah Uh-huh. Yeah, they really do.

And by the way, do any of us get our teen girls in any way?

Not really.
